Morbosays gives an honest impression of the new GI Joe movie. too good to be true lol
Horrendous!!!
Now I would like to preface that by saying I went into the movie with VERY LOW expectations because they wouldn't screen the movie for the critics because they didn't want it getting ripped into like Transformers 2 was. This was the exact quote from the distribution company. My first warning should have been the fact that the theater was almost empty when I went in.
Knowing that and how much I didn't like Trans 2 I had very low to no expectations plus I was drunk so i figured how terrible could it be.
BOY WAS I WRONG!!! Apparently it could be so much worse than expected.
I will say this. If you know NOTHING about the comics and cartoons of the 80s then you will love this movie. However, if you are familiar with the 80s...this movie never comes close to origins of cobra or GI Joe.
The guy they cast for Duke....I would have preferred Christian Bale and his abortion of a batman impression over that guy. And for some reason, they cast Marlon Waynes as Ripcord and he spends the whole movie cracking jokes and hitting on anything with a pair of tits. It actually gets bad enough where you hope he gets shot dead in a friendly fire incident.
I did thoroughly enjoy the fights between Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow and they did stay true to that story line even though they killed Storm Shadow at end. That lost me a bit. They were also accurate with the formation of the Cobra Commandos.
They also wound up closing off the story line at the end so the rise of cobra is also the end of cobra??
All in all...this movie was just another rape of my childhood. It seems to me that if screen writers have years of material to go off of...they could at least read 1 or 2 of the comics and base a story line off of that.
