I have an apology to make. In the past, I've made fun of anti-video-game lawyer Jack Thompson for his views on gamers, his rudimentary grasp of logic and the distinct scent of brimstone that surrounds him. I see now that I was wrong. So very wrong. Video games truly are nothing more than attractively packaged training devices for youthful violence, mayhem and nose-thumbing. What pulled me out of the sub-basement of denial and into the glorious, shining foyer of light? Well, I finally managed to buy a Nintendo Wii (or, as I prefer to call it, the Murder Appliance). |

Nintendo announced today that it will be replacing 3.2 million straps for the Wii's remote control. This voluntary exchange program will allow consumers to exchange the old 0.024 inch diameter for a thicker 0.04 inch strap at local Nintendo service centers. This exchange program is expected to cost the company several million dollars.
"People tended to get a bit excited, especially while playing Wii sports, and in some cases the control would come loose from their hands," company spokesperson Yasuhiro Minagawa said. "The new strap will be almost twice as thick." |

Nintendo's console wins Best of Show, Best Hardware; Spore, Gears of War, Assassin's Creed also honored.
By Tim Surette, GameSpot
The big question after every Electronic Entertainment Expo is always "which publisher won?" That query never has a definitive answer, but if the results of the Game Critics Awards: Best of E3 2006 are any indication, the winner would be Nintendo, which took home five awards--more than any other publisher.
